In today’s episode I am grateful to introduce you to master calligrapher, designer, seamstress, and foodie Melissa Esplin of Calligraphy.org as she opens up about something she has never shared in a public forum, her struggle with postpartum depression. She shares her story of how the negative comments of others during her pregnancy led her down a path to zero confidence as a mother even before the birth of her daughter and how she struggled for two years to feel that bond with her after she was born. Melissa describes the downward spirals of depression she experienced and expands on a multitude of things that has helped her to combat them to feel herself again. She also shares about her special needs son and how she had to accept that his deficiencies were not the result of her parenting skills. She emotionally shares a story of rescue that she experienced with him at a very difficult time which confirmed her belief in the need for a community of support and of God. Listen and be to create priorities in your life that will help you maintain or regain your mental health.
